About Me
Sidney Rovney is a percussionist who embodies the many different types of musical styles he performs such as jazz, ragtime, classical, African drumming, steel drum band, and multi-percussion, the art of solo or chamber percussion playing that specializes in playing multiple percussion instruments at one time. Currently, Sidney is studying Music Performance with an emphasis in percussion and studies with Alana Wiessing and Morris Palter at the University of Arizona Fred Fox School of Music located in Tucson, Arizona. During his time at the University of Arizona Fred Fox School Music, he has played in all of the premier large ensembles: Arizona Symphony Orchestra and Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of Thomas Cockrell, Wind Ensemble, under the direction Chad Nicholson, Wind Symphony, under the direction of Chad Shoopman, Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Morris Palter, and steel drum band, under the direction Katelynn Ward and formerly Michal Brauhn. Also, Sidney has attended summer seminars such as Tocalo Tucson where he learned from distinguished artists, such as Bob Becker, Anders Astrand, Russell Hartenberger, and Michael Burritt. Sidney is also a part of the University’s Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia where he is a member of the choral group and the drumset player of their rock band. By playing in many different types of ensembles at the Fred Fox School of Music, he strives for and achieves musical excellence in his performances and teaching every day. Sidney is constantly striving to bring the art of percussion music to more listeners and future percussionists, through his own experiences where he found a lot of love for music just by simply drumming. When Sidney is not in rehearsal, practicing, or teaching, he is spending plenty of time with his friends and family, and maybe even playing some very competitive games of ping pong.
